Hey there well I'm putting a new oem piston in my 2006 crf450r. And probably going to go ahead and put kibblewhite valves/ springs while I'm at it. How do you know when the bike's timing is correct. Is it a simple as finding t.d.c. making sure the cam lobes are facing rearward HELP.

when your crank gear is lined up (right side of bike), your lobes are faceing rearward, and the line on your cam gear are lined up with the arrow on the cam assembly your in time.

As Madmax indicated, you need to have the crank at TDC of the compression stroke and line up the cam gear with the arrow on the casting. The lobes facing rearward.

Ok i have one more question. When i took the cam out i had to remove the cam gear. So i should be able to replace the cam so the lobes are facing rearward reave the cahin and cam gear together place the gear on the cam lining up the arrows and be in time? Do i have this even a little bit wright.

You can, this is how you do it on the 250s. But i think it`s a WHOLE lot easyer to put the cam in, and put the chain on the gear. You can line up the gear and move the cam with your fingers till the bolt holes line up.

Just remember to always have the lobes facing rearward or better, pointing straight up when putting the cam on. If they are hitting the buckets and you tighten the bolts it will push the valves into the piston and maybe bend one.
