Hello, my name is BIll, I’m new to the site, and very frustrated and hoping somebody can help me out here.

So here we go. I blew out my rear shock on my 07’ CRF150F about two weeks ago. I bought the bike brand new in 2007 and maybe put about 40 to 50 hours into it. But it did sit for a long time and of course things are going to deteriorate.

So I found the part number for the rear shock and went searching online, to my surprise you can not find them. Then I went to a local Honda dealership and they said “sure no prob it’ll be here by next week! I was so happy I found one...

A week goes by and I call the Honda dealership to just now get told that “Honda no longer makes those shocks anymore” What a surprise... I couldn’t believe it. Anyways, does anybody know of any other rear shock that can fit onto a 2007 Honda CRF150F? I’ve read they can’t be rebuilt, so I don’t know what to do. I recently spent so much money into the bike and it runs like it’s new because it barely has any hours on it for the date is was made.

I’m lost and I hope somebody can help me out here. If I have to send the shock to get rebuild I will. But I’m being told I’m pretty much screwed.

Edit: I do have one question, in your opinion where would be a good mounting point for the Remote aluminum reservoir? Maybe I will have to mess with the battery box and get a lithium battery for it, and put the battery in the air box, or under my seat. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.


Yeah it was a little more than I was willing to spend but the bike is pretty much brand new, without it sitting for years of course. But she’s running so good, I didn’t want to let it just die without a shock. And for my size and weight this shock should last the rest of my riding time on it. Have a good one.

Basically any place that is out of the suspension travel , so it won't hit anything when the swingarm moves , you can mount it to the frame (hose clamps) , or any place out of the way , just keep in mind suspension travel and chain movement , with the old shock removed . move the swingarm full travel to see what kind of room you have when the suspension would be at full compression , that should give you a good idea of where you can or can't put it , then just figure out the best location within those boundaries and you should be good to go ..

Hey Jim, I do have another question for you don’t if you don’t mind helping me. I know the shock I got is a decent one and I did spend some money on it. So I was thinking why now get the front end done as well, since they are stock forks. I ordered BBR springs with the little research I did find. I’ve read to maybe try one spring in one fork only first. What do you think I should do, if you know? I honestly like to ride super aggressive and I jump some things. But the bike does bottom out a lot.

I never take it to a track or anything like that. This is all local. But I want the bike to be able to withstand the abuse I do give it. I’m not that tall and don’t weigh that much, maybe 135 on my heaviest of days. That’s why I never really upgraded my bike to a bigger one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If the BBR spring is all need then so be it. But since I am spending so much on the rear, I would like to know if there is anything I could do for the front.

You should go up 1 rate on the fork spring for your weight , that bike is made for someone around 100-120 max , so yea , you need to go stiffer on the forks , stock rate is around a 0.32 , you need around a 0.36 or so and you need around a 7.95 for the shock ...

Due to the minimal shorter stroke of that suspension , you need it to be stiff to keep from bottoming , it will not be harsh , in fact quite the opposite , stiffer springs will soften the ride because you will be in the part of the stroke you need to be at the start , instead of already part way collapsed where you are not getting any benefit from the travel because you are starting off already close to bottoming

You will like the bike a whole lot more with heavier springs that keep the bike up in the stroke more , that will keep you from bottoming as much , since unfortunately , there is not a lot of adjustments with them , so you are limited , so springs are a must if you do not fall within the target weight of the bike ...

One of each springs works well but try both BBR springs and see how your static sag is.

The F bikes can use all the travel up quickly over multiple bumps so keeping it up in the stroke as Jim said can make it a smoother ride.
