I'm going to drain the old oil out and replace it when I'm greasing the head set. Has anbody used motul oil. Should I use the stock weight oil our should I change the weight. I'm 5' 11" and 185lbs.

Thanks for the help.

stick with the stock weight. adjust fork response with shim stack if needed. if you don't have the correct springs for your riding weight, type of riding and ability now would be a good time to get them.

Any of the fork oils are good
play around with the oil weight and hight.
Dont forget the iner fork tube oil
i like a heaver oil and a slight increase in oil level

I was told I could just use ATF for the fork oil. Has anyone done this for a CRF230?

My son blew the fork seals and we are going to replace them but just wanted to know on the oil.

Dont use ATF fluid
Fork oil is cheap
It may work ok on a crf230 but i would not recomend it.

Thanks

Ok thanks bingy331.

This is my sons bike and he likes to jump it. This is not on a track but rather around places we ride. Would you recommend 10W or 15W oil and about how much to put in each fork?

Thanks again. :)

10 or 15 is fine
15 may make it a little stiffer.
I do not know the oil level i would just call a local dealership and they should be able to help.

ive heard some of the offraod race guys using ATF instead of suspension oil in like trophy trucks and such but that is only because when they are racing the baja 500 and 1000 they were seeing shock temperatures in excess of 500 degrees and the ATF performs better in extreme temps then suspendionsion oil but for your dirt bike id just stick to the stock recomendations and just adjust the fork oil level
