If the cartridge rod sucks back in the inner chamber the cartridge seals are bad correct? Can you replace them yourself or do you have to have someone do them?

you can do this yourself if you are comfortable working on forks or confident in following the manual or other how-to articles on the subject. we stock these seals if you need them.

I was in the process of putting in new seals and bushings when I ran into this problem. So I`d like to be able to fix it myself but what is the process?

It is very difficult, if you havn't done this before I'd send it to Race Tech.

If this is an inner cahmber bleed problem, i do not recommend performing the work yourself without experience. I assume it is a bad floating piston seal...

the most challenging part of replacing this seal is the disassembly and reassembly of the forks themselves. there are some tips and tricks to doing them and there are several how-to as well as videos here that show this part of the process. if you go slow and follow the instructions carefully and have some mechanical ability you can do it.

Ken, I don't think that he is referring to the Dampner, I think he's is talking about the "Rod Seal" which is difficult to R & R.
Benny, correct me if I am wrong.

Benny - Which seal are you inquiring about?

If it's the inner chamber seal (circled but not called out by the fiche) I would take it in. Honda recommends replacing the ENTIRE inner chamber asm if this seal is bad. The seal itself is available but only from aftermarket suspension parts man'f like Works Connection. They cost only $20 or so, but the work should be farmed out...

It`s not on the comp. stack,it`s the rod that screws to the rebound adjuster. The one you pump to bleed air out of inner chamber. When I put comp.assembly into inner chamber and bleed, the rod won`t stay out,it sucks back. Which sucks :? .

I wouldn't mess with it, too hard to remove & replace the seal inside. Either send it away or find a good suspension shop that can do this. Do Not let your Honda Dealer fix it! They will screw it up. Make sure to do both forks, if one is bad now, then the other will go soon. PM me if you need some help on this, as I have had to deal with this on my bike and two others.

yeah, i thought you were talking about the fork cap assembly. still i'm one of those types that figures if someone else can do it so can i. i haven't personally done this but have read about it. basically you remove the bottom of the cartridge by unscrewing it. the challenge is you have to carefully drill out the peen dimples that keeps it in place. you may have to apply a bit of heat to warm it just enough to loosen up any loc-tite that may have been used.

if anyone has done this personally chime in with correction or details.

unfortunately can't help you with that level of detail. i don't have a disassembled fork in front of me and not having done it personally before i can't even rely on memory. from what i've read you'll see four peened dimples that need to be drilled out. this is the delicate part of the process. once you drill out the dimples you can remove the bottom of the cartridge. some say warming up the case with some heat, not too much though, will help loosen up any loc-tite if used.

let us know how it goes...take some pictures.
