Questions on oil change for CRF250X Forks

    by ipaman » Sun Jun 27, 2010 5:14 am

I bought my 2006 used and I know the oil has never been changed in the fork. Luckily, it was hardly ridden until I got it though. I have a couple questions:

1.I weigh 195 with gear. So, I plan on adding slightly more oil. I will not add more than the Maximum allowed. Is it okay for me to use Belray 7W?

2.Since the bike is set up stock for a 165lb rider can I add washers under the spring to add some preload? I read that as long as they are the same outer diameter you can do this.

    3. Is there a write up with pictures for a 250 oil change? I have the manual, but a write up would be nice.

    4. Also, in the manual it shows a special tool that you can also make out of steel. Does anyone have an alternative method where we don't need this tool?

Sweet! That is exactly what I needed. It looks like I can skip most of those steps for an oil change. I am going to send the forks out to be revalved and rebuilt in the next 6 months, so I only want to change the oil out.
