Valving....Shim Stacks

I have an 04' CRF450R. The suspension on this bike is of course set up for MX. I ride tight woods only, and just like to plunk around at no more than a putt putt pace most of the time.

I weigh 265lbs, have stock valving and springs. Forks are very stiff and harsh. I'm used to the stock forks on KTM EXC's, KDX's, ect. They are must softer and more plush.

Can anyone recommend a good shim stack for me? Spring rates? I just miss a soft suspension that soaks everything up.

Will this make a noticeable difference AS? Should i change valve to gold valves or just stay with stock?

It's a Pro Circuit stack, similar rider weight, 05 450R.

Would that make it a MX stack?

Set up for enduro, plush but designed to keep the forks high in the stroke.

Maybe Flipside has a better stack...PM him.

That stack is gonna kill your comp. adjuster.

Maybe Pro Circuit uses it to keep the customer coming back for service...

I am willing to bet that that is not a PC stack. Besides there are way more to those forks then just the comp stack.

I never liked those bleed shims ( 25x.10 )between the piston and the 30x.10's

If you're really in tight enduro stuff, something like this always works well...

considering your weight

(12) 30x.10
20x.10
30x.15
28x.10
26x.10
24x.10
22x.10
20x.10
18x.10
17x.20 ( or two 17x.10's )

then reverse stack the shims you've removed keeping in mind the .45 you added with the 20x.10 - 30x.15 - 17x.20

Do the math to keep the distance from base plate to piston in spec. You can do this with the 30x.10's you've removed. Don't worry about the 0.05 because of the 30x.15

Remove one 20x.10 from the midvalve

With the correct spring rates, you should be able to safely run as low as 340cc, I personally would not run any more than that for off road.
