What does revalving do for you?

    by m00n » Thu Feb 07, 2008 1:47 pm

I'm going to have some suspension work done on my bike. 2004 CRF250R. It's too tall for me so basically having it lowered. The mechanic I was talking with said that we may also want to revalve the front shocks (along with other things he mentioned).

What would be the benefit of revalving the shocks as well?

    Thanks

It will give you a plusher ride in the rough stuff.

More so that adjusting the shocks via the adjustment click screws? Or is this a totally different ballgame?

I don't understand all the technical stuff, but revalving changes hydraulic flow rates, typically giving you a much plusher ride and getting progressively stiffer at end of stroke.
If you race, or just want to handle better, its an absolute must. My son's (155#) '08 was a pogo stick, until we got it revalved.
Will change suspension characteristics much more than clicker adjustment.
I would only use a suspension company that has been doing it for many years.
Just because a mechanic knows how to rebuild forks/shocks, does not mean that they are competent doing custom valving.
