Pro Taper Accutrac sytem triple clamp

    by HardRider112 » Wed Feb 27, 2008 8:38 pm

Has anyone out here that bought the new ProTaper Accutrac triple clamp system ever break either the bar clamp bolts or the fork pinch bolt. I have and being that Pro Taper is a big company that uses bad hardware and they say they have known about it for weeks . I torqued them to ProTaper specs and broke 7 of 12 bolts . Also how is it that not only mine but a good friend of mine his bolts broke to and he went out bought the right torque wrench and everything to make sure his didn't break. but you guessed it they broke . So if anyone that bought Pro Taper accutrac triple clamp system please email me so we can get a class action lawsuit going here or just to watch out for the tripple clamps bad hardeware issue

yup called them and the guy said that he never heard of that before happening to anyone . I raced and been riding for years and never had this happen and whats the odds of it happening to 2 people that know eachother with the right torque specs

I'd return them and buy Applied Racing triples. That company stands behind their product.

I remember one member here had a bad high speed crash and bent the top triple. He contacted Applied to just buy the piece he needed and they replaced them at no charge.

Yeah i know what Hardrider112 talking about. My bolts broke too. Oh yeah and the bolts got lot's of rust in the middle them and looks like it's made out of old pot metal, now i know where all the old pots and pans go ! It's just upsetting that protaper would let hardwear like this fly. I had a low speed get off because of this, but what if i was comming down steep downhill. And ride alot of hills. So as for me, i'll never ride Protaper clamps again. Is that what makes Protaper money ? Let's save money and use . hardwear even if someone can get hurt or even killed.

How would you feel if this happened to you ? There's no way to save it if your bars move or fall off!!!!

    I second that.
I remember this idiot who broke his Applied clamps due to some nasty endo crash and he had the nerve to ask them to cover the replacement.Applieds are builtand that must've been some crash.
They did replace them. I wouldn't have.
Regardless, it is very disappointing to hear that about that product, ProTaper has an excellent reputation and I'd expect them to stand behind their product.
What kind of torque are we talking about anyway ? Doug
