My old helmet saved my life. I bought a new one before I rode after the crash. Is you life worth $300?

Buy a new one. It's not worth the chance.

What kind of helmet is it? My son had a slow speed get-off on one of our CRFer rides where he pulled a little drop off too slow and the rear wheel decided it wanted to be in front. Pitched him over the bars and the bikes swingarm came to rest on his fairly new TLD. Knicked the glass pretty good and I told him he had to replace his new helmet, the first helmet he ever had to buy for himself,
He stepped up, but couldn't afford another TLD so soon after purchasing this one (students don't have too large of bank accounts), but my buddy at our local shop cut him a real good price on a nice Thor.
He did one ride in the Thor, and dcided to have his TLD checked out by them (having tried to have Shoei do the same for me once with no luck, it didn't occur to me to take it to them) and they gave it a clean bill of health. No structural damage and good to use.
That being said, if you can't get it checked and OK'd, I am right on board with the rest of the advice on here. It served it's purpose, retire it and be thankful you sacrificed a replaceable item instead of your well being.
