Stripping an X model down for GNCC style racing.

I am taking an X this year, and stripping it down closer to the R spec, for off road /GNCC racing, rather than building up an R to an R/X hybrid. I am removing most of the enduro hardware, the battery, kickstand, the headlight, for weight and reliability issues.

For instance, are there any issues bolting on a R front numberplate?

Anyone with experience with this general process that would like to shed some light would be appreciated...

The OEM R plate will not interchange with the X headlight/plate (mounting isssues) If you don't want to change the triple clamps Cycra makes a front plate that will work. Available from right here at crfsonly. Several of the members have done this and are very pleased with the result. FYI R rear fender fits; left side panel does not

Cycra plate sounds like the way to go.

Thanks...I think the Cycra plate will be the way to go. CRF's only will get my business.

I plan on weighing all the parts, and seeing how much I can get off the bike by just removing the extra items added to the X. Great bike stock, real interested to see how this plays out once I put it on a diet.

Check this out. This is what mulisha498 did. You might get some weight saving tips here.

i use the cycra plate on my X and it works great...i keep extra zip ties in my tool box so i can take it off and put it back on. it takes three zip ties. there are two types of these number plates...full and half vented. the half vented will help with air flow to the radiators.

the starter is pretty heavy but is not easily removed.

after market triple clamps weight less and are more rigid making for more percise steering.

talon hubs and excel rims are weigh less than stock wheelsets. these are expensive but not only will you shave weight but you'll also gain strength. plus unsprung weight savings is worth double the weight savings.

aftermarket plastics also weigh less.

more exotic things are a titanium subframe (i'm working with a company to produce one for the X as well as an aluminum version), titanium footpegs, titanium bolts and nuts, etc.

I know its not really relevant, but I seen an article in a bike mag a while back where they put a 250R on a diet, and got it down below 200 pounds. It was wild what all they did.
