plastic ties are a MUST on the trail...add some duct tape and you'll be able to repair just about anything ;)

I keep and use zip ties often in my workshop, but for trail emergenices, I prefer a 10' roll of stiff wire. (We call it "bailing war" heah in Alabammy.)

1. It's stronger than plastic.
2. It's impervious to gasoline and heat.
3. It can be cut to the length needed.
4. It can be used over and over again.

Someone even suggested once that it can be used as a fishing hook when you get REALLY lost. I dunno.

The worst case of LOST I ever suffered was in a shopping mall with my wife! "I was looking for the jewelry store, honey, honest! But I took a short cut through Radio Shack, and then couldn't find my way back!"

very funny...radio shack. your first mistake was going to the mall! i went just a week ago with my wife and suffered from a very serious bout of 'mall fatigue' all within an hour! unfortunately, i have 'chronic shopping fatigue syndrome' or CSFS as the realmen medical journal refers it. if you are a fellow sufferer the only real treatment that seems to work is what we call 'mall-avoidance'. getting lost in radio shack is just treating the symptom not the problem.

An alternative or addition to Zip Ties is this strips of Velcro

Strong, flexible, reusuable and soft

Downside is not as thin ( width wise ) as a Zippy
