    Rotating bars forward?

    by Jason » Thu Mar 31, 2005 6:06 pm

Since I had the front end apart to lube the stem bearings, I decided to rotate the bars forward in the clamps about 1/2 an inch. This makes me set up on the tank easier. Is there any draw backs to doing this? I'll be getting a GPR V2 kit in a couple of months and this will raise the bars so they will be back to "straight up".

if you race mx, its a good idea to have your bar position rotated foward. It helps keep your elbows up, which is easier said than done

That's the first thing I noticed was how I naturally had my elbows up. Hopefully I'll get to ride this weekend to try it out.

I noticed that the bars too far forward creates a little headshake for me. There is a happy medium - between having them forward and down. Make sure when you find your "spot", stamp the bar with a mark as a datum point for future quick adjust...

At first I had the bars set up with the allen wrench to tighten the front bolts just touching the front of the cross bar. Now I have the allen wrench just touching the back of the bar. So in reality I moved them the width of the bar and the allen wrench. Also I set the forks on the second mark to put them higher in the clamps.

I'll see tomorrow morning how this works and if I need to go back to what I had.

Didn't ride too much today 1.2 hrs. One thing I did notice is that the stearing is definitly faster. It took a little getting use to but I think I'm going to like it. Also I finally got over the 65 footer today, and it was a great feeling. Lands a lot smoother on the down side than short landing it.

My bike became a lot more comfortable when I rotated the bars forward. I just loosened up the clamps, then stood as if I was riding then you can have someone tighten the clamps up for you, then take it for a spin and see how you like it.

A couple of weeks ago I installed a set of BRP triple clamps and the sup mount with a Scotts stabilizer. This raized the bars about an inch and I have them rotated where I had to take off the cross bar to get to the front clamp bolts. It's amazing how much easier one inch makes the transition from sitting to standing.

jason...i have to agree. the first time i went to a higher bar clamp i couldn't believe the difference in control while standing and how much easier it was to stand. lowering the pegs even a half inch will have a significant impact as well.

The last time I did any thing on my bike that had a significant impact took about six months to heal LOL!
