What is this device connected to the 450X cylinder head

Just bought a used CRF450X in very good condition. This bike is made in Japan, as it says in the sticker on the frame. I noticed this device attached to the cylinder head (picture). My 2010 bike does not have it and so all the bikes I have seen here in Oman.
Any idea what is this for?

That is the anti-smog (AIS) system. It isnt really necessary unless there are restrictions where you live. It basically just keeps the clear air people happy and makes your bike run funny. It can be removed with a block off kit.

To add to Matts response - it also gives you massive deceleration pop's. That is from my riding buddy who had the AIS on his CA bike. Like most he used the block off kit to get rid of it. 8)
My AZ bike was not built with the tree hugger system.

This is the smog block off kit I used.

    Thanks,

Yes, the bike pops on decel all the times, and it has less power at low end compared to my other 450X which does not have this AIS.
There are no restrictions for smog on dirt bikes here in Oman so it is good idea to get rid of it.

it will help reduce the decel popping:

if you are down on power make sure you have it jetted correctly, air box opened up, free flowing air filter. these will make a significant difference.
