    Warped Rear Disc

    by stuart » Sat Jan 13, 2007 2:19 pm

Yesterday I was busy replacing the clutch on my X and noticed the rear wheel was grabbing. On closer inspection it seems my disc is warped.

There are no obvious impact points (i use a shark fin). Any ideas how this could have happened (heat?). And how do i straighten it out?

Make sure your wheel is alighned prop first if the wheel is at an angle its possible for it to appear like a warped rotor. If your rotor is warped it was caused by impact or exccesive heat. Either way its easier and cheaper to get a new rotor than to mess with the other one. Heck- good excuse to get a cool wavy one :D

If its not totally bent, you can salvage it until you really wear it out. Use a crescent wrench and apply slight force on it. I've done this for years.

Alignment has nothing to do with it. The carrier is aligned with the rear axle not the swingarm.

Try the Crescent wrench idea Stuart. Applying heat or banging on it won't work, but a small amount of gentle persuasion might make it livable.

Start looking for a replacement at a good price.

Mine warped as well. I rode it for a while with it like that - no prob, but it did wear on the pads a little more.
I replaced mine. Very easy to do.

Defiantly not an alignment issue, i took the shifting spanner (Crescent wrench) approach and it is almost ok. And yes, might be a good excuse to look for a wave type disc.

On another note the new clutch is fantastic and all the drag a creep issues are gone.
