Anyone made an E-Start "R" outta their X ?

Has anyone made their "X" into an MX racer, you know: Have you turned it into an "R with the Button"?
If so...any tips?
I'm contemplating dropping an "X" bottom-end into an "R" chassis...or...just Retro-ing the X into an R.
Sounds crazy?
I've got the hardware and I want an E-Start Vet-MX bike...that's also GOOD off-road.
Ask Dust Devil, he'll tell ya that I'm a nut -AND- I'll do it...even it it means havin' to ride Red...errr...uh....White, that is (It'll be an MDK bike).

The reason I wanted the X originally, was simply for the E start so I know exactly what you are thinking. It can be done but just how far you go is up to you.
Electronics
If you want the E start, obviously you need to keep the battery and starter motor. The battery compartment (for lack of a better term) is in the subframe and all of the electrical wiring is housed in the rear fender. You'll have to keep the rear of the bike stock for the most part to keep all the electronics. In doing that, you have to keep the X airbox and boot too.
Wheels
You can swap the rear 18" wheel for a 19" with no problem. Up front, you can run the R axel and spacers and remove the odometer workings.
Lighting
Take off the front light and replace with a Cycra Stadium plate. You don't need to swap any other hardware for that. If you want to use the stock R plate, you will need to swap the upper triple clamp with one from the R.
Plastics
If you swap in the R gas tank, you can run the R shrouds. The rear fender and side panels must stay though as mentioned above. The front fender is the same on the R so leave it.
Suspension
The components are the same but the valving and spring rates are set up a little different. This is rider specific so you'll have to work that out.
Engine
This is where you can either stay stock or really get into things. You can run the R cam and a High Compression piston to get within the ballpark of the R but it will still be slightly different. The transmission is different too so that will have some impact on things.
I'm sure I'm missing some things, but this is essentially where my X is and I love it. It still handles well in the desert, has the E start, green sticker and works well on the track. The only real weight difference between the 2 would be in the electronics, battery and starter motor. The frame is a little heavier I think too.
Or you can buy a KTM 450, or 250 SX. They all have E starters on them now.
What am I missing guys?

The 450 tanks are interchangable? I was under the impression that the 250 tanks interchanged but not the 450's.
Didn't PT get an R desert tank by mistake and found that it would not work in his X?
Just want to clarify

I keep hearing both ways on the tank and shrouds too. But I'll let Nowazzu set it straight... So does it work? Might be worth it for me to swap actually. I like the narrower feel a little better.
What year fits?

I think with a full suspension re-do, and some engine work you would have an X that is very much like an R

Yes, it does work. The 05 R tank fit my 05 X. I also put the 05 R shrouds on with both the R and X tanks but obviously the R shrouds are molded to fit the R tank.

Exactly...

I think Manny would be happy with the stock X tank for moto and the 3.2 IMS fo when he comes out to the dez.

Yeah but where's the fun in that? You mean, ride a stock bike? No bling? No major modifications? This board would dry up and the universe would end (for some at least) if we were all to ride stock bikes.

Does it give it a narrower feel? Or are those radiators still in the way to not really notice much?

I had an X and have an R and can tell you that that's a fact. Doug

The narrow feel of the tank is noticeable. Is it enough to warrant the swap? For me; no. Maybe I've just gotten used to it. When I put a 3.2 gallon tank on the R for a race I did, I REALLY noticed the difference. I hated it.

Thanks for the replies.
I plan on using White MDK "R" plastic and relocating the battery/harness to main-frame/airbox area.
"R" sub/seat/plastic.
I'll keep the 18" for off-road and run a 19" for moto.
I've got a set of kit-forks and RG3s for the front.
Looks like all this stuff will have to be 05/06 as there ae a few "R" only changes to some of it.
I was looking for any "Hidden" problems that might be out there. You guys have made it known that this is easier than I thought.
I came to the right place.
Thanks!
