    SoCal Drivers

I came across the following article which, although off topic, really hit home considering my recent ventures through the L.A. freeway system. I really don't care that it is off topic, because with all of the ride planning that we do here, it is a goal of this forum to get some of our Midwestern and East coast members out for a spin or two on the West coast. I will add that this list is far from complete. I give you the Top 10 Exasperating Driver Types in Southern California:

    http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/top ... ticle.html

I will now add at least one.

    11. Clueless foreigner that wants to appear inconspicuous to avoid deportation.

This is not limited to the demographic that first comes to mind. Many countries feel that there is a deficiency in available Dry Cleaning facilities in Southern California, and feel that they must uproot the ENTIRE family and stake their claim. This type of driver positions their vehicle in the middle of the lane, regardless of flow, traffic volume, upcoming interchanges, etc. They maintain a speed "Just under the radar" (translation: just a bit slower than an ice cream cart), and maintain a speed and heading oblivious to those around them. At each major (or minor) interchange, they become confused, and begin driving erratically so as to throw all of the previous 10 driver types into chaos. Lane changes involving these drivers become life decisions. Horns, fingers, verbal abuse in many languages, have little or no effect on this driver type. Fear of being run off the road also does not "motivate" this driver type as their vehicle is either the worst machine on the road and would explode with only minor contact, or it is so stupidly expensive, that they must have a team of lawyers waiting to "maintain their lifestyle" at your expense. These drivers become like boulders on a scenic mountain trail. They shouldn't be there, and will only cause pain to someone that hits them, while they remain unscathed! Yeah, I had my coffee this morning!
