I HAVE A 06 CRF450X,AND THE CHAIN SLAP AT
THE COUNTER SHAFT SPROCKET IS DRIVING ME
NUTS!!!!!MY CHAIN TENSION IS GOOD,BUT I
HAVE FOUND THE ONLY WAY TO REDUCE THE
SLAP IS TO OVERADJUST THE CHAIN.D0 I HAVE
TO SPEND BIG $$$$$$ FOR A CHAIN GUIDE TO
FIX THIS PROBLEM????PLEASE LET ME KNOW
IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY!!!!!!

Drove me nuts as well. Found a different riding technique
helped my insanity here and it's SIMPLE. Shift down earlier and shift up later, don't chug the the engine if this bothers you. Try it, you will be amazed!
P.S. If you think we got it bad... go ride a 2007 WR250,
you will appreciate your quiet Honda

I had the same problems on my 05 450r,i,ll tell you how i fixed it.All you need to do is losen the top bolts of your chain gide .Get a peice of rubber 80mmlong,5mmthick,20mmwide and jam it in between the chain gide and top of swing arm i glued mine to gide and tighten bolts.NO MORE CHAIN SLAP.[/b]

Funny thing happened.

My new 450x had bad chain slap......slipped on a White Bros E2 and the chain slap was gone!!

What you don't hear can't hurt you anymore, plus with the open air box mod, JD jetting, Boyesen accelerator pump cover your to busy twisting the throttle to care!!

i'm pretty sure this isn't caused by poor jetting so i'll move it to the crf450x forum.

the best suggestion is to insulate the chain slide from the swing arm with some rubber as suggested. keep your chain adjusted properly and keep from chuggin.

...I was having the same problem with my '05 450 BECAUSE...I was running a worn stock DID chain...I replaced it ( and the worn sprockets) with DID Gold chain and now it's O.K.. One interesting thing I read in the owners handbook; it says that you should run your back wheel as forward as possible for the best handling...with the wheel adjusted BACK, it puts more weight on the front wheel making the front end heavier( common sense, I know ), BUT it says it turns better AND is more stable in a straight line with a shorter wheelbase...'makes the front end lighter too...I shortened my chain and moved the wheel all the way up...y'know what? They were right!

Ok I see it, but not for the reason your thinking. Your stock exhaust was quite, so now you can't hear the chain slap over the loud exhaust.

If your chain is slappin, you are lugging the engine.

Ok I see it, but not for the reason your thinking. Your stock exhaust was quite, so now you can't hear the chain slap over the loud exhaust.
