Doesn't keep it from binding. It's actually a liquid that keeps rotating in your tubes and fills up and holes.
I used to do some work with them. It's a pretty cool story the guy invented it with his wife in his bathtub. It contains some kind of glycol that keeps it from hardening, which is the same stuff used in ice cream to keep it from freezing. They are located in Grover Beach and the owner is a big time surfer. Nice people, nice company. And just a little trivia, they actually own a trademark on that green color.
For tubes make sure you use the formula with out the black specs in it (that's for tubeless aplications).
It's better to put slime in before you get a puncture as it will try to seal the puncture with minimal tire pressure loss. I run slime and only had one flat when I ran over a cactus, and it only went flat in the garage, it was good for the rest of the trail ride.
