Engine Temp & Max RPM

Got a Trail Tech Vapor computer from Santa (via Ken) for Xmas. In playing with the unit and reading over the manual, it raised a couple of basic questions. After searching my manuals and on line, I couldn't find any satisfactory answers. So... I thought I'd tap into some of the knowledge here.

1) In regard to engine temp, at what temp (F) is it time to take it easy (getting a little hot -- 190 F)?

2) What engine temp is max (i.e. DANGER!) -- 230 F?

3) At what RPM do most of you shift at ( i.e. target --6000 RPM?)

4) Thinking of the rev limiter (pink wire in place), what's the max RPM?

As part of the install, I will be draining the rads and replacing coolant (about time anyway). Any suggestions -- Engine Ice?

Thanks in advance for the info!

I can only add this.......Just use the honda pre-mixed coolant.

Skip the engine ice.

Thanks for the note on the pre-mix.

How about an argument for NOT using Engine Ice.

It boils at a higher temp, therefore allows your components and oil to run hotter before you see signs of boilover. Hotter components mean more expansion which means less bearing clearances, which means total engine failure. How's that?

DD -

Sounds like an argument to use Engine Ice.

Not always the advise, but the attitude.

After all, they say attitude is everything.

I'm sure we all loved it when we were kids and some authority figure -- parent, teacher, or such -- told you to do something because, "I said so."

Most of us are adults here, and all kidding aside, like to be treated as such.

Asking for more info is not a childish thing, but a sign of maturity. How one responds also reflects on ones maturity.

I was simply looking for an explanation, not some flipped remark. My fault though, should have known.

All-in-all, your posts are often helpful -- thank you.

(I know, I know... I can see the subliminal DD salute. Which usually says it all).

Thanks for the helpful info, Kurt & ~!

Anyone chime in on the temp/RPM thing?

I have my Vapor set to 212F for the warning and 230 for the shutoff light. As for shifting I think mine is set to 6000 RPM but I'm not sure if the RPM is correct because I wasn't sure what to set the pulse to.

As for coolant I would suggest the Honda premix stuff, it is the best you can buy.
