I cant find any thread on whether an oversized ims tank for a 450x will fit a 450r. Anybody switched these ?

You might make it fit, but the shrouds are different.

the stock R tank is narrower at the base than the X ppl switch to R tanks to narrow their bike and it appears to be a lot of work search that see what ya find

Dan, i was sent an IMS '05 R tank by mistake, looking at the tank and my bike, there was no way it was gonna even start sittin in the frame. so, i imagine the converse, X tank in an R, would be impossible also.

I have an IMS 3.2 gal tank for an 06 450x, and it fits onto my 07 450R by using the x shrouds.

Tank will fit, I have a 450R tank on my X, even using the X shrouds although the tank is moulded to suit the R shouds ( doesnt quite match up) it fits no problem.
Silverfox - hmmm big tank off X onto R, you riding the R in Finke then?

Yep. Thats the plan. Just moved house and havn't sold the other one yet!!!! So if it sells I'm there. if not might have to give it a miss

Does the R tank make the X feel smaller?? Thinking of trying to find one for my X when racing

Are you talking about comparing the big tanks? If so I dont think it makes much difference X or R as long as you are comparing the same volumes because they both have the same frame and engine dimensions so it is just a matter of where the tank is bigger to fit the extra volume, My tank is bigger up top making the fuel cap a lot higher than stock where as other tanks I have seen dont go much higher than stock so to get the same volume they would need to go lower.

No, I mean the stock R tank on the X. Does it make the X feel smaller? like an R?
