    O-Rings used in AP Mod.

    by Asmith » Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:10 am

    The two O-Rings used in the AP mod are sized as follows:

    Small O-Ring

    W=1/16" ID=1/4" OD=3/8"

    Large O-Ring

    W=3/32" ID=1/4" OD=7/16"

    Agent, Why would you need two different size O-rings? Isn't there just one that will work? I din't think there were two involved in the mod. Ernie

    I don't know. I was answering a question for a guy that wanted to know what size the O-Rings were that came in the JD kit.

    I thought it was good reference material for the "independent" thinkers out there that will not buy the JD kit.

    I used the Heavier of the two in my AP Mod. I suppose the lighter one will stretch more and give you more lag time on the AP.

    I haven't done it to my bike. Do you think it really makes a difference? I don't have any bog happening at all without it. I do have the the Boyesen cover though.

    The Boyesen cover merely allows the AP to recover faster. Its does nothing to affect the timing, volume, or duration.

    The o-ring affects the timing, the stud on the diaphragm affects the duration and the leak jet affects the volume.

    IMHO, no bog, no worries.

    according to jd the small o-ring is to give you a greater increase in snap(this is the one I used). The larger one is to give you more snap just not as much as the smaller o-ring. From my understanding is it hold the ap together longer. this is all according to JD.

    I was under the impression the opposite was true (Big VS Small)

    OK Smash,

    If you want to be a Euro... :shock:

    W=1.9 ID=6mm OD=9mm

    W=2.4 ID=6mm OD=11mm

    You do realize that these are used as rubber bands right?

    BTW Do you use a Metric crescent wrench to work on that metric bike of yours?

    Can this mod be done without removing the carb? I was going to use a thin guage wire instead of an O-ring.

    Rob,

    Yes it can. There is a black cover on the right side of the carb. It has a recessed allen screw at the top. The whole side cover comes off and gives access to the linkage. Using wire might be difficult due to limited access. The o-rings are easier to use obviously.

    I used whichever one was supposed to give me the 80% increase.. I don't think it gave me 80% more throttle or whatever BUT it was definately a worthwhile and halfway free mod(came with my jetts=), I'd recomend doing it. I don't have the boyseen cover nor see any need to get one I have no bog in my bike (when I have it jetted properly like right now),

    I have done the O'ring mod to mine also. I used the larger of the two and can tell a big difference in throttle response. I agree with Bamm - its easy and makes a difference.
