when I did the jd jet kit I re-used the needle lockdown
bolt type thing that used to be an allen head but is now
a ten mm socket bolt. It has the spring and looked ok but now my bike is making a horrendous knocking noise from the head area. not sure if the needle could have come loose and fired into the cylinder or what. the bike has about 30 minutes of easy riding on it.???

anyone re-use the needle hold down thingy on there 07'?

Unless the clip came out of the needle, it isnt in your engine. I dont think it would be even if the clip fell out. Theres no way for it to get sideways and enter the intake track. You got another problem.

i agree...i don't see how the needle, even loose could get sideways. are you just it's a knocking sounds and not a rattling sound (like something is loose)?

the reason I thought it could be the needle is because of the new holddown type screw although I can't see how it could let the needle into the motor.

It runs good for about ten seconds when reved up a bit
then it would start knocking like a rod in a car would knock
if you've ever heard that before. then it would die like it
was straining to stay running.

I honestly don't think it's the needle either but that was the only wierd type part I'd never seen before.

I'm hoping it's a warrany deal.

Did you spin the carb or take it out? You could have gotten something in the intake track when you did.

yes I turned it to get to the float bowl plug to change the main jet but I've done the same numerous times over the years on other bikes.

Pull the carb and take it apart. Something is either plugged or not seated correctly.

well, it turns out the carb is fine but something broke
loose in the top end and tore up the cylinder, piston,
head and valves. The local honda shop is going to have
the honda rep look at it for warranty consideration.

less than ten easy miles on her and BAM!
