    TrailTech Vapor

    by Generation450X » Wed Dec 13, 2006 11:50 am

I sent this message to Trail-Tech's [email protected] address twice with no reply.

Can anybody shed light on the subject?

"I have trouble accurately seeing the analog speedometer at night on my 2003 Honda VTR1000 (Superhawk). I am hoping that I can fit a Trail-Tech Vapor unit onto my motorcycle.

The Vapor senses engine RPM by a wire that is wrapped around (a) spark plug wire. The Superhawk has a 90-degree V-twin engine. Would the Vapor display an erroneous engine RPM because the Superhawk does not have a single cylinder engine?"

My thoughts are that the Vapor would display the correct RPM because each cylinder fires once per 2 revolutions of the crankshaft. Am I correct?

Yes you are correct. If its like my Acewell, it will have a setting for both 2 and 4 strokes. What does the tach have to do with you not being able to read your speedo?

I want the Trail Tech Vapor because it has a digital readout for road speed, but I would also like it to work for engine speed too.

I see that the Vapor is configurable for engine Pulses Per Revolution (PPR). It can be configured for 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 PPR.

    Thanks for the second opinion!!!

You can install either unit on the coil, and since you have a 90 degree twin you just set it at 1.0, like you would on a 2 stroke. Doug

Nminus1- Thanks for the heads up on the Acewell. I just purchased a model 3915 which will replace my entire instrument cluster.

I'm crossing my fingers that it's a splice and play (that's how the vendor desctribed it) and I can easily mount it to existing mounting points.

The 3915 looks like a nice unit. I have had no trouble with mine so far, it was straightforward to install, thanks to the provided odometer cable. When it came to speed calibration, start with the stock setting, and use a GPS to get it dialed in. Electrosport has great customer service too, the salespeople know the products.
