Shark fin what one to get

    by Old-Man » Mon Dec 11, 2006 6:46 pm

I was looking at all the shark fins Ken has on his site. Some look stonger then others to me. I do like the looks of some better then others, but when it comes to the shark fin I want the strongest out. I would like to know what people think of all of the brands. Right now I'm leaning more to the Scotts. It seems like it has a little more meat to it then others.

    What's everyones thoughts on them.

I ordered Kens, I love that replaceable fin idea.
If I went with a different one it would've been the Scots though, it does look pretty rugged. Doug

I love my Scotts! It's tough as nails, and I like the way it looks better than all the others. The replacable feature on the new CRF'sOnly fin seems nice, but really, if you need to replace the fin, I'd bet you need a bunch of other parts and maybe even a new bike (and a doctor and serious meds) as well.

(And, the logo on the crfsonly fin is not accurate -- they didn't use the correct fonts!)

FTD!!! I bought the original from Dennis Patterson who now makes them for CRF's. The CRF's is only better.

The carrier is heavier than the Scotts. Made from 6061 T6 aluminum. The fin is replaceable. Mine has taken some big hits. A few scrapes but that's it.

I will be buying one for my 450X.

Old Man, go with the CRFsOnly. I looked it over pretty good at the trackday. It's very well built. The replaceable fin is great. It allows you to mount a caliper guard that some others don't. It's a class piece of work. As soon as I get the bucks, one's going on mine! :)

What I like a lot about the Scotts is, it seems to cover more of the rotor then most.

Actually, the replaceable fin is what bothers me a bit. I prefer the one piece aspect of the Scotts. I ran one on my last bike for close to 5 years with plenty of beating and have run one on the X for well over a year and a half, again with plenty of beating. Haven't ever had to "replace" anything on either of them. I did have a bolt up chain guide once that oblonged the mounting holes and caused me problems on the Gas Gas ... probably the driver for my preference of a one piece unit.

Does anyone have a good side picture of one of the Scotts units?

I would also like to know how much below the rotor does it come. I would also like to know that on Ken's.

you absolutely can not go wrong with the crf's only, scotts, or flatland racing shark fins that we offer. all three will provide great protection and are built to last.

there is no need to by concerned about the replaceable fin found on the crf's only fin or the flatland racing fin. both are designed and built to take all punishment you can dish out. ours has the added advantage of allowing us to anodize the fin for style points and allows you to inexpensively replace the battle scared fin should you ever want to freshen up the look of your ride.

IMO, if you want color, go with the CRF's, if not go with the Scotts.

the "MSR" fin is actually made by enduro engineering and is the exact same one we sell under the flatland racing name.
