Need a Connecting Rod - please help!

    by Frolo » Mon Dec 11, 2006 8:14 am

Fist of all I need to replace a connecting rod in my CRF 450X and the only solution they have in my regional Honda dealer is a complete crank with a price of over 1100$ (I'm from Poland) - that's just nuts!

I'm looking for just a connecting rod in a reasonable price.
    I also have a question...

I took my engine apart ang was analysing if anything needs to be replaced... I was wondering if the crank bearing (the one on the side of the flywheel) should fit a bit loose or should it be thight?

    I would appreciate any help!

Phillip, Here is your solution. Much less than $1,100.00. This is for the R but I believe it's the same as the X. I'm sure the techies will correct me if I'm wrong. I think they make just a rod replacement kit too. You might want to PM Ken to get the scoupe.

    Philip,

You don't have to replace the whole crank asm. You can purchase the rod itself from companies like Hotrod, Wiseco, IMS, Vesrah, etc...There are a bunch of companies available. Most of the retail prices are around $80-140. I recommend the Hotrods and the $140 price tag. Any motorcycle shop that services crankshafts will replace the rod and bearings for about $60 labor. I wouldn't pay any more than that (except for added shipping). Check it out....

Any parts unlimited dealer can get the connecting rod stuff. The Mr Crankshaft guy is super friendly and does quality work. He is fast turn-around also...good luck and feel free to ask questions..
