Maybe if our X's were as crappy as other forum's members preach them to be, we would have more technical information to post about...

Otherwise, the usual pattern is that a newbie comes in and asks a question on one of the usual half-dozen or so topics (jetting, suspension set-up, is the tranny really as crappy as I've read on the internet, etc). It would get real boring real quick if the standard "do a search, you newbie puke!" answer were given as seen on "other" forums. So, the technical answers are given post haste, and then the thread usually spirals into a hi-jacked, off-topic, descent into our collective manias... (induced by the post-traumatic stress caused by riding some of the trails that we do.)

If the thread has no techinical merit at all, it is quite evident by the title, or after reading the first or second post. The downward spiral is also usually very evident. Time to get out while the gettin's good if you so choose.

Otherwise, this forum is pretty much just like being together by the campfire with your usual riding buddies. It gets out of control occasionally, with sarcasm, name-calling, arguments, bruised egos, etc. Then it's just like being out on the trail with your buds. We all know this mode is not for children or the faint of heart! That's what makes it what it is, and I think is what the general appeal is all about.

Here's one good suggestion; Dougie has to count to 100 while humming the "Don't worry, be happy" song to cool off before he replies to any politically sensitive discussion.

Unfortunately this won't work with DD, as it will just give him more time to gather ammo...

And... nice try to be humble Smash, but if you're so slow then why did your jersey sleeves spontaneously combust into flames?

disclaimer: you guys should all know that my comments are only meant as a testament of the great respect I have for you and are my sincerest form of flattery.

Oh, and my vote is for the status-quo (DUH).

I say keep things the same. My opinion is that with all this discussion from one persons uproar has turned everyone away from enjoying themselves into being so serious. I myself do not come here just for tech tips. I come here to enjoy myself and get a laugh. If I dont feel like reading a post then I wont. Its my choice!!! My feeling is if someone comes here from TT and wants to stir things up, just ignore them untill they chill out and want to contribute instead of causing chaos! Just my $.02

Camp fire accident, I'm so slow that an out of control camp fire caught me.

Regardless of the tech merit of this site, my bike and riding ability wouldn't be half of what it is without the advice and suggestions of the members. There is plenty of tech advice to be had here. But by now everyone knows about the pink wire, everyone knows about cutting the air box, etc..

    Hey FatBoy.
You've posted a whole lot of VERY funny topics, pictures, etc, and I've gotten a big kick out of them.
Sure, since it looks like we'll be going the route of not posting anything really explicit, we've gotta watch that stuff. (within reason, I don't think Captain Kangaroo is necessary)
However, what you posted was pretty mild in my book, and never a bad natured thing, ever.
I've seen you apologize a number of times now since this . storm blew up,and I sure don't think it's necessary. You've been an active ,helpful person on the board and a pleasure to have around.
You know how "sleeping on it" can shed a different light on a subject the next day ? Well, in this case ,as long as we monitor whats in REASONABLE good taste,I think this subject has been well covered, and much more of it will be a group hysteria kind of thing.
Ken does final decision making calls, and the voting no matter how spun makes it pretty clear that there are at least 29 people who like it the way it is, with only good taste and manners polishing up required.

This is how I see it.When someone posts a question it gets answered pretty quick with good solid answers And when the work is done the fun part starts.

It's almost an internal rebellion, I mean with Doug being the number one Jd Salesman, didn't he have a link to the jd kit in his signature?

i for one have enjoyed the 'free form' posting and diversion within a thread. heck, i've jacked a few threads myself. as mentioned by several in this thread i mostly concerned about keeping this a place everyone, of any age, can come and not find objectionable material or be attacked if their view differs from anothers whether it's a majority or minority view.

i've always been very impressed with everyone's willingness to help with any question. in fact, often i'm in awe at how helpful everyone is...and not just with information. i'll never forget the impromptu fundraiser for nowazzu, a fellow board member, who's 450x was stolen in mexico. we joined in and donated to the cause as well but it wasn't our idea. as i recall it was mp8075, a fellow member, who came up with the suggestion. many others joined in to help him. nowazzu mentioned that it brought his wife to tears when she heard of our members generosity. this is just one example of the great memembers found here on CRF's Only.

i really do appreciate all the support we receive and the support everyone provides to each other.
