I would agree - 60-65ish mph is a good cruise speed for 14/48 final gearing. Any faster than that I would not want to rev that high for too long a period of time. Short stints only. Though I still wonder how the 1X Baja 1000 winning 450X averaged 59+mph for something like 18 hours straight. That bike was running 15/47 final gearing.. That blows me away!! :o

When i make the run to stateline and back I am doing 80mph on powerline roads for 160+miles consistently. I have no problems yet [-o< . And that was running stock gearing.

My speedo reads 81 MPH at the limiter on pavement consistently with stock gearing. I had my buddy run right next to me on a stretch of two lane highway on his rocket and he verified that 80ish was pretty darn close. I am going to switch to a 14/48 gearing, so I can cruise at 60mph or so with a lower RPM. I have 1,500+ miles on it with stock gearing running a high RPM most of the time with no probs.

The fastest speed I was able to pull with stock gearing (13/51) was 82.0 mph on GPS.

I still had more to go rev limiter was nowhere close. I have tried to hit it and if I push it in 4th I will hit it but not 5th gear.

I do not know where or how you guys ride, because I can run 80mph without being on the limiter all the time, but I was keeping up with a stock xr650 actually passing him at certain points. I am sure with my new gearing change I will pass him all the time.

Funny you say Amsoil. I've been thinking of switching to Amsoil myself. All I hear is great things about it. =D>

I have no current experience with the speed an XR650, but I have to say I'm surprised to hear that a stock 450X is just as fast or faster.

When I ran 82.0 (GPS) on my 450X with stock gearing it was on the asphalt and I would say even ever so slightly downhill.

You will like the 14/48 combination. I love it for open riding, but I always switch back to stock to ride the track. I think going to a 13/52 or 53 would be even better for the tracks.

This could turn in to a heated oil debate if I push this. But I have always thought AMSoil is a far superior oil I have run it in all my bikes and it smells good too not like regular oil.

I run AMSoil on both sides. I was gonna look into the red bottle for the tranny side. I don't know if it is really gonna matter, because I am paranoid as hell and change my oil so often. I usually change it about every 100 miles (150 at the most).
