Is El Golfo on the Eastern coast or the Western coast? The Eastern side looks to be pretty wide open

You can always bring your own bike with Trailboss Tours. Just remember to bring any extra parts or specific items for the bike (extra air filter, oil, oil filter, etc) I work for Trailboss in the winter and ride my Caballo Rojo 450x to keep the blue bikes reeeaal honest!

    Caballo Rojo -

I took a look at the Trailboss site and saw a note on Loreto. I was there last summer... what a great place!

Do you anything about the ride in/around Loreto?

We should try to hook up at John's Peak some time when XGiant's down in Medford and go for a So Oregon CRFsOnly ride.

Thanks for the info Red Horse :D . They should make that a little clearer on their website. I was interested until I couldn't see anything about your own equipment. If I hadn't asked the question and you hadn't chimed in, I would have written them off.

Since you work with them, how gnarly do the trails get. Most of what I saw was roads..

Jaws- Each ride is different from the last. There have been many different race routes established over the years...some great, some avoided, so it depends on the conditions of the day, rider abilities, etc. Trailboss always will please the customer and give them what they want. Lot of times the group will split up according to abilities or what the group wants to ride. Been worked over a few times by AA riders, but manage to blow anybodys mind down there with the unlimited terrain and choices of trails. I prefer the single track sections and over the years (with a lot of exploring) we have managed to link many miles together of roadless trails.

Thanks, Caballo. I will keep that in mind. I may see if I can get a small group interested..

Man $1,700 sounds like one hell of a lot of money to ride Baja for 3 days. We did Baja for 4 days and it was under $300 each. Most of the cost was in gas. I have a buddy that can hook us up with a place to stay if some of you want to ride Baja. He can get a house in many areas, so you can pick where you want to stay. You can ride 5 miles a day to 200+ miles a day. You can ride the dez, beach, and forest if you want.

Well, I certainly like that price a lot better. I dind't know what the price would be if you brought your own gear. I saw about $1700 for a provided bike. For 3 days and your own gear that is too much.

Joe, I think for the $1,700 you stay in a nice hotel and food and drinks are included. We stayed in a 3 bed room house with no maid to cook for us. I think for $50 we could of got one to cook for use for a week and do other thing for that $50. LOL The house we were in didn't cost use anything., but we wanted to take care of the guy that was looking over the ranch. I think we gave him $20 each for the 4 days. We had hot showers and rest rooms to use. That was the main thing. A few nights we fixed our own food that we took with us, and other nights we went out for dinner. I think it was about $6 for dinner out. We didn't eat steak and lobsters, but we eat well.

Are you up for a trip? I can have my buddy set something up for late spring if you want. He knows the place real well, he's a border brother.

I would like to go. I have never ridden in Baja or Mexico proper for that matter. Lets talk. Maybe we can get a small group going. That would be great.

About 10 guys would be fun. I don't know if I would like to do just 2 or 3. Your always better off in numbers. Let me make a few calls. I will have to see if he can get us set-up with a house.

El Golfo is on the West coast of the mainland (not on the Baja Peninsula) due south of Yuma. I've been there a few times and really liked the riding. Miles and miles of dunes, open beach and endless desert. One of my favorite rides there is to Rocky Point. There are a lot of riding options but not much else. That's the part of Mexico time forgot.

Just thought I would put my two cents in on this.
If you are an experienced baja rider, speak spanish, have a well tuned, baja prepped bike, know all the remote fuel stops, know the area, willing to carry everything you need on the bike or on your back.....go for it...it is an amazing adventure.
Or.....do the tour (4-5 days) ride 150 - 200 miles per day, flog a brand new machine w/ new tires, have a support truck fueling your bike (and you), have another vehicle hauling your luggage to each nightly destination (and placing luggage in your room) order anything you want to eat at every meal, have mechanics work at night servicing your bike for the next day, even get a shower on the last day before you get into the shuttle back to the airport, have pros deal with the federal checkpoints and roaming federales, have tools, parts, first aid and sat communication for emergencys and breakdowns, spare bikes for the one that wads one up, have not a friggin care in the world where you are riding cause others know the way.
    Priceless first time experience.
    Worth evry penny.
Ultimate ride anybody could ever want to do on a dirt bike.
Been doing it for years and have never gotten tired of it.
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough.
