    18 450r Fork rebound adjuster

    by Wallace22 » Sat Sep 25, 2021 6:24 pm

My rebound damping adjusting screw is only giving me 5 clicks then it just stops clicking. I think the rod might just be rounded. Can I replace this without messing with the cartridge. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

So no matter which way you go there is 5 total ??

Yea , you can replace the D rod and/or the adjuster , all you need to do (don't even have to drain the fork) is remove it from the bike , turn it upside down , and unscrew the adjustor , then pull it and the rod out , get the new one , slide it back in and turn it till it drops slightly and locks into place , if the adjustor is not damaged , then just put it in till you get the D shape in the rod , you may have to push down on the fork tube slightly , as when the rebound adjuster is removed , the rebound rod is what holds the fork tubes together , so with the adjuster out , it is easy to pull on the tube and extend the fork a bit more than you want , but put the adjuster in the D shape so you know it is seated correctly , then screw it down , then you should be good to go ....... .... If you have any issues or questions , just post , and I will try to get back to you ASAP ...

Make sure before you tighten anything down on the adjuster , that you measure the distance from the locknut to the end of the threads/top , then set the gap with the feeler gauge , then set the locknut (hopefully you have a Owners Manual , or Service Manual) , if not I can post pictures from my 2020 Service Manual , which should be the same settings , the setting procedure for the locknut is on page 114 of your Owners Manual

I am guessing the forks were serviced ??? , if so , whomever put it back together did not get it set in the D part of the rod and it was backwards , which flared the end when the adjuster was tightened down , and that is why it skips .... however you should have about 16 clicks out of the adjuster on the bike.. , and while it is removed , click it and see if the detents are all there , and it should turn indefinitely , as long as you keep clicking it , if it does not then it is damaged and will need replaced , but it should not stop after a few clicks , and I am unaware of anyone being able to disassemble them to repair anything if it is damaged ...

Sometimes you luck out and someone on EBay is parting out the forks in separate parts , otherwise Dealer , or here , or anywhere that sells OEM parts ...
