    Carburetor issues

    by Batch » Tue Sep 07, 2021 11:14 am

I've got a 2011crf100f that I rebuilt the carb and it is still leaking fuel out the overflow. I put all new jets, floats and all the parts in it but it still leaks when I put it back on the bike. I even took the carb off, fillied a bottle up to act as the gas tank and it didn't leak when i did that but as soon as I put it on the bike it leaks. Please help me!!! My daughter just wants to ride her bike.

Welcome to the site !! \"D/

When you say you replaced everything , did that include the Needle and Set ?? , it is what the float attaches to and if the tip is bad or worn , it will leak fuel into the bowl and allow overflowing , the other option/culprit could be the float level , if you did not adjust it correctly , it could be too high and allow more gas than the bowl can contain and it will spill out the overflow .... those would be the 2 places I would look for a solution .... the float should be pushing on the needle just at or slightly below level , if it is above that , it will overflow ...

Jimdirt, I replaced all the parts. I've done everything I know what to do. I had it working this morning, it wasn't leaking when I turned the fuel on so I took it for a ride, when I got back to the house it was leaking again. How do I adjust the float valve?

The float itself is adjusted via the tab that the wire loop hooks on , the flat valve is not adjustable , but if it was not replaced as well , it may have a groove in it or the rubber is bad and it will allow fuel to enter the bowl and make it overflow , the thing is , if the carb sitting is not leaking , but when you turn the valve on it does , indicates either the float is adjusted to high or the valve (needle/seat) is leaking allowing fuel to continue to fill the bowl .. that is about all there is to fix that issue , either a float issue or a needle/seat issue , one of the 2 is causing your leaking .... if you shut off the fuel valve and the bike does not leak , then one or both of the above is what is causing it

Adjusting the float itself needs to be done with the carb off and tilted sideways with the pins up so the float is hanging ,
the float level is set measuring from float bowl gasket surface on main body , tip of float tab with needle valve seated, but not depressing spring in needle. Tip body and rock float back against needle to just seat it and measure , Make sure the 2 sides of the float are not twisted so one side is higher than the other ..... The float level is 21.5 mm (0.85 in)

If the vent to atmophere tube off the carb body is obstructed it will cause the float to overfill regardless of the float tab setting. Something to check. They may account for why it works on the bench and then not when back on the bike and the vent tubes hooked back up ?
