Question about bolt on crf250L

Hello,

I’ve been lurking a while.

I have a 2014 crf 250L. There is an Allen bolt on the bottom of the crankcase and I’ve been wondering what it’s for. It’s not the oil drain bolt.

It’s #2 on the parts diagram. Part #11107-kyj-900

Just curious. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge on here.

Joe

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

I searched thru the Service Manual , and I can not find any mention of it , it shows it , but does not give a reason or need to unscrew it ... so not sure what its purpose is either Maybe just a secondary drain plug , it looks the exact same as the actual drain plug on my 2020 , and it looks to be in the sump area , so maybe it is just that ... a alternative oil drain ... however , I would not use it unless you have issues with the regular drain bolt , as it does not give a torque spec for it , so I would guess they do not want you messing with it ... Sorry ... :-k 8-[

Only other suggestion I can think of is to contact your dealer and ask them if they have any idea what its function is ... :-k

Thanks!

Ya I’m not going to mess with it was just curious. I’ll see if the dealership mechanic knows anything. I try and stay away from that place. Have a habit of walking out with stuff I didn’t know I needed every time I go.

Yea ... I hear ya ... that is why I shop online ... , I don't have as much guilt if I have to wait a few days for stuff , then it feel like I am getting a gift  , I have spent about $2500 on stuff I "really needed" :-~ in the last month or so .... but my bike and my truck personally thanked me for it ... so there's that ... ;) ...Well actually I spent a lot more than that , but that is what I did not finance ..... I also got wheels and tires , and a lift kit for my truck , and a few other things for my bike , like suspension springs f/r , and a few other items , I "really needed"

Yea , maybe they were trying to transition the oil drain to the style my bike has .... that way it is 1 drain plug for all models ... who knows ... :-k , I am sure there is some kind of purpose for it , but nothing in the Service Manual says anything about it ... so maybe it is just how like on the 17 450R they made accommodations for a E-Start , but it was a "option" , then in 18 they made it standard but kept the kick start , then in 19 they removed the kick start but kept the option for it , then in 20 they removed the option for the kick and made it only button .... so maybe it is a transition part ... in that sense ..
