hi. I have just bought a used 2018 crf250r and when I try and change the engine mode by holding down the button it flashes constantly. (not one, two or threw flashes like it should)
has anyone come across this before.

How are you pushing it ?? , you should be pushing it for about 1 or 2 seconds then let off, don't hold it ...

Also what does it do when you start it ?? , does it just constantly flash or does it work correctly and only does this when you try to change the map ?? , and when it does flash , are you positive it is constantly flashing , usually if their is a issue it will blink a code , it may be several blinks , so you might think it is constant , but it should at some point briefly stop , and some blinks should be short and some long , indicating a specific error code

So watch closely and count , if there is any pause , that is a number so if it blinks 9 times , then briefly stops , the code is 9 , then the next code , etc.

only pressing 1 - 2 seconds and the light has not pauses.
just took seat off and noticed it has a vortex ecu that must be why it is not working normal)
will have to look at some reviews to see if there any good or not

I took seat off today and noticed it has a vortex ecu. I assume that's why is not working like the factory ecu

I just did some checking , and it appears at least from what I understood , that the only switch function that is retained is the Traction Control .... Any chance the prior owner still has the stock ECU ?? , I tried to download the Instruction Manual PDF for that ignition from Tokyo Mods site , and it says Not Available , So maybe call them tomorrow and confirm if the functions of the stock switch are eliminated , and where you can get instructions for their ECU
