No if it started and actually ran fine , then crapped out , I would guess either fuel or electrical , the only way timing could jump like that would be if the tensioner broke , but you would hear a awful racket with the chain rattling .... so I do not think that is the issue
You might look at the stator .... I have seen then work intermittently , usually they just go out , but sometimes they will work , then not , and just because it has spark when kicking it over does not mean when it is under a load that it will give a good spark , if it is not a snappy blue spark , I would question it ..... , but pretty much you have timing/spark , fuel and air , and compression , that is about it , if the float is good and the squirt is good (hopefully it just misses the slide and does not hit it) , then the only other items would be timing or spark
Like I said , try the plug dip and see if it starts , if it does , then you can figure it is fuel related , if it does not change , then I would lean in the electrical or timing way ...
Don't try to over diagnose the issue , go step by step , eliminate each thing before moving to the next , that way , you rule out each completely instead of bouncing back and forth , if you try checking spark and fuel at the same time , sometimes , you end up missing something , or overlooking the obvious because you were not focused on each part of the system and one part hid a issue with another , and you end up skipping over something ....
