    CRF50 Taking Off in Gear

    by TMeadows » Sat Jan 02, 2021 5:19 pm

    Hey y’all!
We have a 50 that sat in storage for about 8 years. We got it up and running pretty well except for one problem. When we put it in gear, it takes off without us touching the throttle. Any ideas? We have tried lowering the idle and adjusting the clutch.

Sounds like the centrifugal clutch is stuck from sitting.

Agree with Neil about centrifugal clutch.

You can try holding the brakes on firmly and see if it lets go.
Might need some revs at the same time.

Ensure the chain is not too tight as that can affect things I found in the past.

Even normal car and truck clutches can grow together over time and using the clutch pedal doesn't stop the drive. So not unexpected.
