    150f Help please!!

    by JAC2 » Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:14 pm

2008 crf150f. Gas began leaking briskly out of the overflow tube from carb bowl causing stalling. Initially thought it was a stuck float issue. Carb cleaned and adjusted many many times. Still leaked. Entire new float assembly installed. Still leaked. Tried a million adjustments and finally gave up and replaced the entire carb assembly (OEM $300). It still leaks!! So I finally took it to a second repair shop and they adjusted it and said it was fine. Brought home and rode it for 90 seconds and it started briskly leaking gas again! I am completely defeated. I have no idea what else it could be. I’ve now invested over $750 (labor and parts) on a bike worth about twice that. Anyone have any ideas before I sell it? After 3 weeks and countless trips to two service centers, I’m about done. Could it be anything else or is it still a carburetor issue? Thanks in advance for any advice. Joe

There are only two things that will cause fuel to over flow as you described. One is the needle & seat pint. Usually the needle valve tip is bad allowing fuel to pass past the needle & seat or a damaged seat. Second is a vent to atmosphere tube being clogged and throwing off the ventilation balance which causes fuel to rise internally up and over the flow level and over board out the tubes.

You got ripped off by both shops. I would be back on their door steps demanding some refunded money.

This is generally a problem that requires no money to fix. Wipe the crust off of the needle and seat with your fingers, and test it before you put it back on the bike.
Blow into the inlet passage where the fuel flows into the carb, and while blowing, lift the float and see if the air flow shuts off.

Hopefully, the float arm hasn't been bent while trying to "adjust" the float height. Honda engineers were smart enough to stamp those float arms so that if it is perfectly straight, the float is adjusted correctly.

I have never seen where wiping a hardened tip of a needle jet to fix the issue. If it's "crusty" It's hard and it leaks.
Try it, but you will be taking it back apart and doing it right.

I don't understand how replacing the whole carb failed to fix the problem.

I would also be contacting the business that last "fixed it" because obviously they didn't.

I assume you have flushed the tank and petcock out as any debris would cause the problem to reoccur, with trash holding the needle open.

Check the vent pipes as Neil suggested.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas
