    2014 YZ250F issues

    by Edovi » Thu Dec 27, 2018 12:05 am

Has anyone else been having problems with the 2014 YZ250F https://mechanicfaq.com/oil-for-yz250f/ ? We have had the usual shift stopper, oil pump failure, water pump gear (yes gear) and all of the other things that come with these issues. Bike now has major engine damage. I have a friend who also lost an oil pump . The shift stopper grenading can cause all kinds of problems. Our dealer has been great so far but Yamaha will not give any help. This is ridiculous as these bikes clearly have some problems. I feel very fortunate this bike didnt lock up on the face of a jump.

Sorry to hear about your bike problems. Yamaha has a reputation as the most durable, bullet proof bike made.
This is a Honda forum, and lots of people are willing to help anyway, but I don't know how much Yamaha knowledge is floating around. Maybe someone will chime in.

What Mr. Leardriver stated is true. Yamaha has in my opinion the highest quality equipment available. I have owned YFZ, YZF and YZ dirt machines and an R1 street bikes. Incredible quality, fit and finish that is outstanding. As with any mechanical item, if they are not properly maintained they will fail. My brother in law had the same YFZ450 as I had and he blow his up three times. It was due to lack of proper maintenance. I understand there are occasional "lemons" so to speak but it is very rare. Proper oil changes, air filter cleaning, coolant service ect... Those are just the basic items that are vital to keeping high performance machines functioning as they should.
