Bad alternator/generator

I don't know much about these bikes yet, except that they run like crazy! Anyway, I have had an ongoing problem with a dead battery for a while. I figured that the battery is bad and I need a new one. Well this evening I also noticed my headlight going dim, the wierd thing is that it is worse at high rpm. The only thing I can think of is alternator, but that doesn't seem quite normal. Anybody have tips for me? I'll get my vm out tomorrow and look things over a little bit more.

Hi,
What year and model is your bike.
Do you have a copy of the wiring diagram?

As Ray asked it would help to know what model bike we are discussing. From what you described that could be many different things. What comes to mind to me is regulator / rectifier. It could also be a short in the system or a stator shorting out.

Sorry guys, I missed the notification button and forgot to tell you what bike I have. It is a 2006 250x. I do not have any wiring diagrams.

Also note that the vm showed me a bad connection near the headlight, but I still think it should be generating a bit more power.
