    HF1 or HF2 marking on pistons CRF450R

    I have a brand new piston with rings that I got when I bought a CRF450R 2012.
    It has a mark HF3 on the downside. On the old piston there is marked HF2.
    I have tried to google but cannot find any reliable answers, (I found that the same marking can also be used on pistons for cars).
    Can anyone explain what this marking tells?

    Would appear to be a casting number so they know which mould it came out of as they are cast in batches. That way if there is a problem that is found to be all the one position from the mould it can be readily identified. Only other thing would be a revision number of the mould. Is it OEM or after market if so which brand.

    That is also what I was thinking but not confirmed. The piston has exactly the same marking procedure as OEM with "menl" and a small stamped number not visible on the picture (maybe operator number). The only thing that differ is HF3 on the "new" one and HF2 on the old that I know for sure is OEM and correct. It would be great if someone can confirm that this is a fact.
