    CRF250R help please

    by Squiggle » Wed Oct 15, 2014 1:55 am

Hi guys, I have just brought a 2005 crf250r and the original chain guide needs to be replaced. I purchased a RHK chain guide listed as fitting the 05-06 crf250r but when I tried installing it the hole pitches are completely off. I have returned the RHK and swapped for another one in the hopes that it may be a bad part, but the second one is unfortunately identical.

So the first and last holes line up but the middle hole is about 10mm out. The OEM is 22mm from center to center and the RHK is 32mm center to center.

So I checked the bike frame VIN and engine numbers and they both check out at 2005 so I am starting to think that the previous owner may have fitted a swingarm from a different year model ?

Has anyone else had this problem ? Can anyone steer me in the right direction ? I have tried searching for dimensions/changes on the 04 05 and 07 250r chain guide but cant find anything except for a thread from this forum stating there is differences in the chain guide but gives no specifics.

I have taken photos of the differences between the stock and RHK guide if its any help, please excuse the photos as they are from my phone.

    Thanks in advanced

I have an 2006 crf250f. I will take the measurements and take a pic. Hopefully I can figure out how to post pics. Either way ill have the measurement. Why don't you just drill the new piece to fit? Also, been using TMDesigns for like 10 years with no issues at all. Will post findings tomorrow night.

Thanks Shogun I appreciate it. I was originally going to drill it but having it mounted with the first and last bolts in and the geometry is way off causing the chain to hit the top of the guard which is going to cause rapid wear. Somethings definetly not right.

Can you check and compare your swiningarm?
It's possible it was changed to a different one?

That RHK part is wrong. All my CRF's 450's and 250's, from "04" - "15" have had guide with same spacing as your broken one.

Thanks for the help mate. Seems strange that RHK could let this slip past quality control. Guessing it was a Monday morning or Friday arvo special.
