So I just purchased a 2006 crf450x and I just realized the idle adjustment screw (the one on side of carb which you can turn with your fingers)is broken.
Or I am assuming it is broken, it just spins freely with no "feel" when tightening or loosening it also has no affect on the idle.

Has anybody had this problem before? is there and easy way of fixing this? I tried a Google search for a new cable, with no luck.

I have never heard of one breaking , you will need to pull the carb linkage cover off (it is the black cover where the cables go to the carb , it has 1 allen in the center to pull it off , i think its a 5mm) , and see if you can see what its doing , you will have to loosen the screw in the intake boot at the front of the carb and the airbox boot screw on the back of the carb , so you can twist the carb to see whats going on , otherwise you will need to completely pull the carb

Your positive its not a R&D Flex Jet Mixture Screw your turning correct ?? , it would come out right next to the idle screw , if one was installed which is common for the X , the idle screw would be right at the front (intake side) about even with the bowl

Flex Jet Screw (note in the picture that the idle screw can be seen to the far left above top of the bowl at the top of the picture directly across from the brass fitting the fuel line goes into , the flex jet screw is facing towards the back of the carb coming from the front of the bowl right in the middle front)

yeah it is defiantly the idle adjustment screw but thanks for the link. I think i will have to buy one of those.
I will try and take a picture if it later today because some of the cable is exposed and the rubber boot around it has slipped off a little.

Then go ahead and do like i mentioned and loosen the carb and tilt it to the shifter side , so you can get at the allen in the black cover , then remove the cover and look at the idle screw where it touches the contact point and start turning the screw and see if its actually moving or if its just spinning or doing nothing , as i said , to fix it or check it out completely , you may have to remove the carb
