2005 CRF 250 Heavier Flywheel - Does 450 Fit?

Hi there, I am currently running a 2005 CRF 250 doing trails and woods, purely for leisure, not racing. However, I find it spins up and loses grip very readily and is also prone to stalling. I have done a bit of research and found that adding weight to the flywheel is beneficial. Thing is, the aftermarket flywheels are kinda expensive and i would like to try and fit an OEM flywheel if possible. From the looks of things the 250 R has the lightest of the OEM Flywheels. Is it possible to fit the flywheel off of the 450 R as it seems to be 6oz heavier. If so, which year of 450R would be compatable with my 2005 250R. Many thanks in anticipation. Cheers

Honestly I would get a flywheel weight. In the scheme of things, they are about $100 bucks and well worth it when it comes to controlling wheel spin. I have one on my crf450x because it works great for slippery Indiana trails in the spring, and slippery hardpack in the summer and fall.
I got the steahly weight that was a few ounces heavier than the stock flywheel. It worked great. Keep in mind they will not lessen your power, just make it roll on easier.

Hi there, cheers for taking the time to respond. Over here in sunny Scotland the flywheel weights cost minimum £150, I can get a secondhand 450 flywheel for about £30. It weighs in at 22oz against the standard 250 weight of 16oz. The standard 2002-2003 flywheel is actually 1oz heavier than some of the weighted aftermarket ones. I just need to know if it fits. Going from trailtech website they sell the same part numbers which fit both the 250 and the 450. As they are listed they add on say 5oz to a 450 but 11oz to a 250. Going by this I'm pretty confident the standard ones will be cross compatable and much cheaper. Just wanted to know if anyone had tried it. Cheers again

Shaggy...welcome to CRF's Only! we do carry the Steahly and Trail Tech flywheels. Not all of the 250 and 450 versions are compatible. EFI for example are not compatible with non-EFI counterparts, etc.
not sure what model year you have but the Steahly version of the CRF450R'02-08 is compatible with the CRF250R'04-09. not sure if this is the case with all aftermarket brands.

Ken, thanks for the welcome and it's good to be here, lots of helpful info

my bike is 2005 CRF 250 and I'm looking at the flywheel off of a 2003 CRF 450. The 2002 -2003 flywheel is 3oz heavier than 2004-2008 in standard trim apparently. I was just wanting to know if they are compatable ie pickups etc in same place. Sounds like you have answered my query, perfect cheers....shaggy
