Hi Ken,
I got the parts this week. The longest component of the time to get parts into Australia appears to be customs clearance.
The steps appear to be:
1. CRF's Only shipping to Australia via US Post (say 1 week, US to Sydney).
2. Customs notification to receiver (say 1 week, via post).
3. Receiver completes 'Import Declaration Form', and client and supplier registration forms, and pays Customs 'Declaration Processing Charge' (AU$48.85) and duty (10% of AU invoice and shipping value at date of CRF's Only invoice, based on US/AU Exchange rate published on AU Customs web site)- (say a day or two).
4. Customs allocates a 'Client Number' for the receiver and the supplier (if they don't already have one), and charges duty (via credit card), and send goods out to receiver (say 1 week).
So, the whole process takes about 3-4 weeks, realistically.
Notes:
------
a) CRF's Only has now been allocated a Customs Client Number (refer step 4 above) which is - CCK7477796M - you should note and advise other purchasers of this number.
b) The web page for your AU buyers to get the official Exchange rate info for step 3 above is
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4291 from that page select the date of the invoice.
c) The 'Import Declaration Form' at step 3 above can be found at
http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resou ... s/B374.pdf
d) The 'Client Registration Form' that needs to be completed by the receiver is at
http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resou ... system.pdf
Customs will normally need one of these forms for the receiver, and one for the supplier...
Use the number I have provided at a) above on the form you complete as supplier. Under 'role requested' tick "Other Role", and write 'Supplier, Customs Client Number CCK7477796M' in that area of the form. The receiver can sign and lodge the forms...
I suggest you download copies of these forms, and 'pre-fill' copies of these forms and send them separately to the customer via post, so they have them to hand when the AU customs parcel clearance notice arrives.
Note that people will need to know:
- Section A: owner reference - this is the 'Reference Number' on the notice that customs will send the receiver.
- Section B: Reference Number - this is the 'Article Number' on the notice that customs will send the receiver.
- Weight and number of parcels (you should tell the receiver this info)
- Section C: Use 'Motor Cycle Spare Parts and Accessories' as the description, and use '87141990 35' as the 'Customs Tariff Classification' and 'Stat Code'
I also believe that all of the above does not apply for 'small' or low value shipments...
So...hope this helps....give me a call, or drop an e-mail for further discussions. Thanks again...
Peter
