    Another Jumpimg Question

    by watto » Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:15 am

Hi all I'm just getting back into mx after a good few years out and I'm after some advice on taking the jumps at my local track , most are table tops but the take off ramps are about only 6ft high but very steep if i have my wieght to far back i'll flip and when i have my wieght forward i hardly get any air and land front wheel first on top of the table ? Also there is a kicker jump that kicks the back end up on take off whats the best way to handle these ? Thanks for any advice Paul .

Try standing in a neutral position and keep the power on all the way until take off. You may have to give the throttle a little blip on the kicker. It works for me, but I am not a great jumper.

It sounds like you are letting the throttle off somewhere up the face, or even at the last second.

I am not so sure about 'blipping' the throttle. I would suggest keeping your pace all the way up and off the face of the jump. Any letting off, the engine breaking will cause the rear end to kick up.

One thing that may help is to approach the jump in a gear higher than you are normally right now -- especially if you are taking them in 2nd gear.

Yeah, by blip I mean a very small one just at takeoff when the kicker is giving you fits.

In that case (like I'm some expert -- lol), I agree.

Just don't let off the throttle ... power off that kicker!
