Well, up to this point, it appears I am the oldest one on this thread. I am 57. I retired 2 yrs ago as a Lt. with the La. State Police, after 32 yrs on the job.

I bought my first bike at 18 yoa. It was a Honda SL90  I have always been 100% Honda. From the '71 XR250, to the first Elsinore...'73 CR250, them many more CR250 up through the first water cooled in '82. At that point my riding practically stopped...maybe 1 ride once ever 3-5 yrs. Until about 6 yrs ago. I broke the old '82 CR250 out of mothball and started back riding with some of the guys from the Troop. I finally bought a used '91 CR250 about 3 yrs ago, and just bought a new '05 CRF450X about 2 weeks ago.

Boy, how I wish I would have had that bike when I was 30! In my late 20's I did a little MX, but mostly I preferred woods riding and racing in hare scrambles. Now, it is just woods riding, although it is usually very competitive

45 yrs old. 2005 450X. Started riding in 4th grade with a Honda Mini-Trail 50 (later called the Z50). Rode wtih friends at local creek. Parents had no idea where we were and had no helmet. Am lucky to not have been hurt. Broke and welded the frame numerous times. Inherited my Dad's CT90 in 6th Grade and rode it until the forks broke. Shot out the windows in the shed in the backyard with a BB gun just as my Dad was negotiating to get me a used Yamaha DT125. Stupid kid!! He didn't buy the bike and I wouldn't ride again until I was 23! I worked assembling motorcycles at a company that transported, uncrated, assembled, and delivered the bikes to numerous dealers in N. California from 8th grade through 12th grade. It was really tough assembling bikes and not riding. Bought a 1984 XR500 in the crate when I graduated from college. Rode that until 1999, when I sold it. Was living in Seattle at the time and was not riding enough to justify keeping it. My wife suggested getting bikes for my 8 yr old daughter and I in December 2004 (I love my wife!!). Bought a 2003 XR70 in April 2005 for my daughter and my 450X in May 2005. I'm convinced N. California is a world-class trail riding area. We have many challenging trail areas (Stonyford, Clear Creek, Upper Lake, Georgetown etc.) Have been riding District 36 Enduros as a Class C Senior. I daydream constantly about riding. I was a geologist for an environmental consuting firm for 13 years and in 2000 I began work as a Network Engineer for an agency that controls the power grid in California. It's humbling being on-call knowing that I would be one of the first to be called should a blackout occur in the 5th largest economy in the world!!

Hello. My name is Kendall. I grew up in SoCal (San Bernardino/Riverside area). My first bike was a 1971 Yamaha AT1 MX 125. I then moved to a XR 185, a XR 200R, XR 350, RM 250, CR 500 ('86, '87, '89, '91 models)... then came college, family, etc., and the subsequent break in riding. I am 39 years old, and hold Master's Degrees in Special Education, and Educational Policy and Foundations of Administration. I currently work as a Special Education administrator in the second largest school district in Oregon (Summers OFF!!!). I am married, and have 3 children: a 14 year-old boy, a 4 year old girl, and a 18 month-old boy. I will always have dirt bikes on the brain... you know the kind... every time you drive down a road you picture yourself riding alongside, scoping out cool mounds of dirt to roost! Only a true moto meathead would understand... like everyone here at CRF's Only!

My name is John and I'm an......OOOPPS, wrong message board.

AHEM, now more about "the REAL" me,

My name is John, I live in Fallbrook, CA (North San Diego County), I am married with a wonderful wife (she actually told me to go to the dealer to see what kind of deal we could get on bikes 8) , and the rest is history! I think I broke a couple of speed laws on the way, but oh well)and a six year old son who is growin up way too fast.

I am the Director of Sales and Marketing for a private golf course here in town, and have worked in the hospitality industry my whole life. Unfortunately, no summers off for me. :( Actually works out well, because riding season here in CA for the desert is in the winter!

My first Honda was a 1979 ATC 90, with the teardrop gas tank and pull start. It was a friends actually, but I sure had fun bouncin on that thing in Anza Borrego....fast forward to 2006, I recently bought two CRF's, a 230 for me and a 150 for my wife. We love to camp, the riding is coming along. It has presented some challenges for my wife due to her limited stand over height, but she is determined. This message board has been a wealth of info, THANKS KEN!!! (shameless sucking up to the webmaster).

There is more to this story, but hopefully we can all share over a campfire and a cold adult beverage (24 hours, 24 beers in a case, a coincedence, I think not!).

Great site, great members, looking forward to catchin that dust on the horizon....... :)

Didn't know this thread existed. Pays to look around!

My name is Joe A. Watkins (JAWS). I am 59, 6'6", 250lbs. I have an '05 450X that I love, but it's a money pit to get set up correctly.

I have been riding since my early teens. Mostly street bikes. Rode a new 1978 Honda 750 from Houston to Washington DC and back. Had a great time.

Started dirt biking on a 175 Bultaco Alpina. Graduated to a 250 Pursang when I was 27 and started MX'ing.

I had never heard of MX until one day (around 1973-1975, riding around in the country outside of Houston, saw a group gathered in a field. Stopped to see what was up. There were a group of riders with old Beezers and Trumpets and something that I had never seen before (CZ). Seems the local motorcycle shop had invited this guy from Europe to demo a new sport called Motor Cross. Interesting! The "track" had a few dirt mounds and then a section of flat-track. Kinda TT like. he locals would kill this guy on the flat-track, but he ate them alive on the mounds! I was hooked! I raced Bultacos and took a MX class from Gary Bailey.

Quit riding when I was 32 due to family pressures. Got back into it at 45 with a Yamaha YZ 490 and then a Honda 480. Rode the CA dez near Randsburg, Gorman and other places. Got back out at 48 when my buddys faded away.

And now, I'm back again and loving it.

I am a programmer for a large utility company in California.

That's my bio and I'm sticking to it!

    Joe

My name is Mark Warner and I live in Southeast Nebraska. I am 40. I am a Systems Integrator/Analyst for CSI - Berkshire Hathaway.
Rode borrowed dirtbikes now and then as a youngster (probably around 10 - 12 years old.) Maybe had a grand total of 20 hours on a bike. Never owned my own, but ALWAYS dreamed of one...too poor.

Had a couple street bikes in the 80's and 90's. They're gone now.

Jump to 2004. I now am no longer too poor (not too rich either unfortunately,) but able to have a little "financial" fun now. Purchased an '04 230 for me and an '04 150 for my (at the time) 12 year-old son. As expected, became hooked!

Spring 2006- Got rid of the 150 and gave my son the 230 and upgraded to an '06 450R. Mostly woods riding. Have been to the track and had my a$$ soundly handed to me but have enjoyed every minute. At 40 and relatively inexperienced in dirtbiking, all I'm looking for is fun in the sun. I consider myself a winner for just being out there.

    Blue Skies!
