I’m a 40yo Dad of 2 boys 7 and 10. When not on the bikes I’m a Printed Circuit Board Designer for a fiber optic systems company in Canada. I actually went to school to be a Mechanical Engineer and worked as such in the beginning. I ended up in Manufacturing Engineering overseeing the processes involved in prototyping and manufacturing laser drilling machines for the same company I originally worked as a Design Eng. I was intrigued buy the PCB’s we were manufacturing with our laser drilling machines and taught myself a bit about it and left that company to Design PCB’s. Strange how things work out… Now I’m sick of it!
I had many street bikes over the years:
    RD400
    S2 250 triple
    RD350
    H1 500 triple
    900 Seca
    KZ750
    Then had kids.
I did get a Gold Wing as my last street bike. And took the kids on that. It was that bike that sparked the kids interest. Ok… maybe I pushed a little as well. :-)
So I got the kids a JR50 and a flogged CR250 for myself. I spent a winter and completely disassembled the CR to the frame and rebuilt it from the ground up. I learned much about 2-strokes and what neglect will do to a machine.
The first month out the kids shard the JR. I could see the interest there so I picked up a CRF70 for the oldest. A couple of months back I traded in the 50 on a CRF80 and got myself a CRF230 to chase the kids. The restored CR is strictly for when I’m out with the other 40yo kids I know.

I'm 38 with a 10 y/o son & 17 y/o daughter. I recently bought a bike(CRF70F) for my son, then one for myself shortly thereafter. We live in North Florida and I work as a relationship manager for an investment & banking institution.

I've been riding since I was 9 or 10 I think. My first ride was a 5hp techumse mini bike that threw the chain every 100 yards, had no brakes, and the throttle stuck on regular occasion. My mom could never get me off that thing. I then moved on to my REAL bike when I was 12 which was a 1971 Honda CL100. Rode that thing off-road for many years and moved to road bikes when I was 16. I did get a few short stints on my step brothers 80's era RM125 during my teens. I think THAT was what gave me the desire to have a real dirtbike one day. That thing was smok'in fast.

It only took 3 street bikes (Yami RD350<-smoker, Suzuki GS550<-dog, Honda 700s Nighthawk S<-best bike I ever owned) and 22 years later to get that dirtbike. My beloved 450x! I recently got our bikes against my wifes wishes. But I told her, its just something I have to do for me, as well as my boy. My daughter?; she decided she'd rather have a car...imagine that. My wife has nooooooo intention on riding anything.....unfortunately. I would love for her to join us, but, it's not happening. Oh well...her loss right?

Well I guess I've been a member for a long time now and have not let you guys know who I am.

Sam - Age 28 - from Livonia, MI. My username is my bike number. Been riding for many years, since around 5 yrs old. Been racing since I was 17 or so. I'm married with 2 (boy and a girl, ages 3 & 1; and 1 on the way). I've always been the neighborhood motorcycle guy as I seem to have a knack fixing them. I do all my own bike-work except suspension. Grew up as a automotive mechanic and I am now an Electrical Engineer. I work for a large automotive supplier designing electrical systems. During college I worked at a local parts/acc shop selling bike/snowmobile parts and clothing. I still get my employee discount ;) ...

I am a mid-pack "B" rider, but on any day could be found sandbagging in the "C" class with my slower friends or riding to my potential in the "A" class. Just for fun folks, at 28yrs old, I won't be getting any sponsorships.

My riding is split about 60/40 MX and trail riding with the majority on the track. I am a board member in a private MX club, we have a beautiful track on 38 acres near Ann Arbor, MI. We have 50 members with an additional 15 members in the "parent chapter. The MX club is a branch off of the street Harley guys. Good ol' bunch looking like their straight out of an old biker movie. Here in MI, all the trails are "up north" a couple hours. My family has a cabin located within a large system of a couple hundred miles of trails. Single track to 5th gear pinned snowmobile trails. It is 1 of 2 counties in MI that allow bikes/quads on the roads. It is optimum riding here in MI.

So feel free to ping ideas/questions off me, obviously I know a little about DC electrical and am pretty good with a wrench. Hello to all, this board has by far the best of everything...

Posted this last night in the Other Bikes forum. Thought it would serve a purpose for this thread.
Thanks for the great site, first-off. Newbie here, found this site googling for CRFX armor.
Currently 37yo, I've been an XR owner since '81 when I was 11 and I got a XR100 from Santa. Went to a CR125 in '82, Pop had a '83 XR200R, got hurt bad (MX) in the early 80's. Didn't ride for the next 16 years or so until I visited a friend with a '97 XR250. Rode it and couldn't get the smile off my face. The next weekend I was shopping for my own. Bought the '98 XR400 in November of '97 and have ridden that ever since. Last spring, a Moab obstacle (Golden Crack
    Image
to be exact), put a hurting on my XR that has since been mended only to recur (broken frame). I was thinking of buying a replacement frame when I started thinking about the time frame between getting the frame, dissassembly/reassembly, and twisting the grip on the XR (it would have been around 3 months!) when I finally broke down and bought an '06 CRF4X. I got it on Tuesday (1/10/06) and have only put 9 miles on it (to get the break in total of 15 miles) before this weekend. I am 'happy as a little girl' now. I am truely stoked to get this bad-mamma-jamma under me and see what 8 1/2 years of technology will do. Thanks for reading my babbling post. Great site, looking forward to learning a lot from everyone here.

The three loves of my life plus one (right now; in no particular order):

Honda 700s Nighthawk S<-best bike I ever own

Was not that one hell of an underrated,do everything bike ?
I loved that bike. A guy had one for sale in the paper,5500 miles,1500 bucks. I called and it was gone.
I told him that if it he would've told me it had never been wrecked I'd've been right over, but it was gone.
A really good bike that was. Doug

OK, I'm a 53 yr old firefighter from central Illinois. Just got my first dirt bike (250r) and it's been fun. I've had a pretty exciting life and this ride seems to fit in. Been riding street bikes a long time and thought I'd give this a try. I joined a local club that has a mx track and some timber riding. It seems like a pretty good club and I think I'll like this.
