Gotta SLOW it down a little....

    by Maineiac » Tue Oct 24, 2006 6:56 am

I need to slow down my son's 2004 CRF70F until he builds his skills up a little. The stock sprockets on the bike are 15T/36T. Any suggestions on new front and rear sprockets that will really slow the bike down to a 50's (speed) performance? By changing the sprockets will I have any chain clearance issues caused by the new geometry? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Just an idea, instead of playing with the gearing, you could retard the ignition timing a little. This would handicap the bike enough without making purchasing decisions... :-k just a thought..

Thanks all. I need to replace the sprockets anyway - so now is a good time to pick a new ratio. I like the idea of a governor or throttle stop. Will a CRF50 throttle and throttle cable fit the 70?

Yes - that's what I figured too - I'm just wondering about the throttle cable length and the connection to the carb. The carbs are different (I think) on the two bikes, but the cable connection may be the same?? Anybody know for sure?

I went to 1 tooth smaller front sprocket because the bike was too fast and bogged too much for an adult and now it is about right. 1st gear is about the same speed as our Polaris 50 4 wheeler, and it pulls an adult much better too!
