CRF-50 Spark problem

My son had his CRF50 out a month or so ago, and I hosed it off to clean the mud off of it before putting it back away.
Next time I went to start it for him, I got nothing in terms of the motor starting.
So, I took the plug out, and turned the key and switch on, and tried to kick it while having an assistant touch the plug to the block to test for spark. I got nothing at all.
Funny thing is, when I took the plug out and kick it, I can hear an audible spark, and have actually shocked myself while doing this.
Any idea about what's up there?
