I would greatly appreciate any and all help I can get. I am new to this and I am looking to learn. Thank you in advance! I want this bike to be a real blessing to my son so I am trying to work out any issues prior to giving it to him on Christmas day. Here's my situation....
I just purchased a 2004 CRF70 for my 10 year old son for Christmas. I've taken it out on a few test rides and shifting seems a hard, jerky, clunky, stiff, etc. There's a noticeable jerk shifting from N into 1st. Shifting from 1st to 2nd is the hardest, jerkiest, clunkiest of all. There is a pretty good THUNK from the gearbox when I shift. Going back from 2nd to 1st is just like you hit the brakes hard and suddenly. Almost causes a skid mark.Going from 2nd to 3rd is relatively smooth. The idle speed seems right. The oil in the gearbox is new. Starts 2nd or 3rd try and after a few minutes just sits there and idles "smoothly".
I have no instruction manual but found several posts and a video on adjusting the clutch which I have done several times without any noticeable change in the shifting. I've read where a 13T sprocket on the front may help. Like I said, I am new to this.
Is any of this normal for the CRF70? Any other things I might adjust or modify to make the shifting smoother?
Thanks again and Merry Christmas,
Mark
