CRF70 steering stem lower bearing race...removal?

    by wanaride » Fri May 16, 2008 5:47 pm

I'm replacing the steering stem bearings on my son's CRF70 (2006) and I'm not sure of a "clean" way to remove the lower bearing race that is pressed onto the stem.

I used a Dremel tool to cut off the lower race on my KDX200 stem, but the cutoff disc is too large for the small race on the CRF70.

The service manual suggests the use of a chisel to remove the race, but I don't have a chisel. Does anyone have a better idea of how to remove that race? Otherwise I guess I'll have to buy a chisel...

In case anyone is curious about this in the future, the lower race came off easily. I started using a chisel but the hammer blows caused the race to move up the stem, so I just tapped around the race to move it gently up the stem...problem solved!

Use a long drift pin pumch and drive the race out from the other side...
