    just got one-need some help

    by kylef08 » Sat Dec 29, 2007 10:10 pm

we recently bought an 04 70 to mess around the house etc.(5 acres and some deer hunting club behind us)
im 16, 6' 140 pounds or so and i'm looking to sortof beef up the bike a bit, because i assume its not exactly made for me.
Ive been riding since i was 7 and im on a yz250f.

i don't have much cash to work with(less than 300) but i was hoping for some improvements, most likely starting with the suspension?
    any help is appreciated.

Stiffen the suspension to hold your weight, and be able to hold it self up when you go over bumps..etc
you dont want to total knock your self off your bike because the suspension bottomed out.

alright, i was checking out the BBR rev box on here and it seemed pretty nifty, would that be something worth getting?seems like it would help with the whole revving the engine more, hopefully. would it wear down the engine eventually or would it be alright?

also i think i will most likely get the rear spring and get the front later if it starts to bug me.

change the front fork oil with 20 w oil, if it still doesnt help put some sockets in it.
then you should open up the exhaust and intake by removing the restrictors like baffles, spark arrestors, backfire screens, and get a new air filter, then turn your fuel screw out a little bit until it runs better and maybe change your needle to the 4th position from top.
that should be able to hold you for a while, but if you want some more power get a new exhaust, change the sprocket size, rejet, etc.

You might find a shock on eBay that will work with your weight a little better. Fox makes an air shock that's adjustable. New, it's beyond your budget, but you may find a used one. Or maybe an iShock.

Honda Trail Bikes also has engine mods for the CRF70. I have an 88cc race head bore kit on my sons bike. Big difference.. but at the limit of the budget you have. The stock 88cc kit is about $140 without a carb if you can handle doing that yourself. They recommend and oil pump upgrade for $25 if you do the bore kit. I thought I once say Honda TB kits here. PM Ken. Maybe he can get them. They sell through resellers.

Reeg MX has done a lot with 70 mods. But they're not cheap.

You could go with a tall seat foam and cover. That might make the bit fit a little better. BBR and Reeg sell those.

BBR makes an upper triple clamp that raises the bars a little. They sell for $129 new. I have one we never used. I went with new forks for our CRF70. If that's of any interest, PM me. It would be dirt cheap. I would just want to check it again to make sure there would be nothing else you needed... like new steering head bearings. I can't recall if they were needed.

Good luck with the little Honda.

alright so i was thinking about doing the 20w fork oil this mlk holiday weekend i have coming up, but then does that really help that much?
-or since im going to be popping wheelies maybe hitting some small jumps and stupid crap like that i should probably throw these in there since i'm going to open her up anyways?

is there some flaw in the logic im using here that i've missed?

then i figured i could go ahead and spend the money on a rear shock or just new spring if i felt like it later?

i tried taking off the baffle/ spark arrestor or whatever and it was too loud(says the father) since the whole point of this bike was to not make the neighbors mad riding around on a yz250f

i figured a better air filter was also probably something i need to get my hands on.

    thanks kevin and zak

    any help is appreciated, thanks.

well i figured i would just replace dicking with the 20w and throw better springs in there-wouldn't it take less effort anyways?

so instead of taking that whole piece thing off, i can just take off the metal mesh thing and that little cap on there?
would that make it much louder? and is that irreversable or can i put that back on if dad doesnt approve of the..loudness?

i dont even know how to get that off- do i just yank it off with some pliers or something- or did i not look at it closely enough.
